Courage Takes Flight: Friends from Sardinia Support Research on Mitofusin 2

October 17th, 2025

On October 17th, an event dedicated to Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 2A was held at the Engle Hall of Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, promoted by Gianpaolo Vinciguerra, a long-time member of the Mitofusin 2 Project Association.

During the event, Gianpaolo shared his personal experience with the condition, telling the story of a complex yet deeply meaningful journey of awareness and commitment to research. His testimony inspired many friends and supporters from the province of Cagliari, who responded with heartfelt participation and solidarity.

The initiative raised €6,686, entirely donated to our scientific research project on Mitofusin 2, carried out at the Centro Dino Ferrari – University of Milan – Policlinico of Milan. Here, a team of researchers led by Professor Stefania Corti—who attended the event together with Dr. Federica Rizzo—works every day to develop new therapeutic strategies for Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 2A.

Our President, Eleonora Bartolini, also attended the evening with her husband. She expressed words of gratitude and encouragement to Gianpaolo and his family, urging them to continue promoting our initiative throughout their region. On this occasion, Eleonora also presented the beautiful handcrafted items from the “Mercatino del Sorriso” (Smile Market), which were warmly appreciated by everyone present.

The Mitofusin 2 Project Association expresses its deep pride and gratitude for Gianpaolo’s dedication in raising awareness and supporting research, and to our friends from Sardinia, who turned their affection into a tangible act of solidarity.
